The entries include daily observations on the local weather, railroad trains coming into the depot, train destinations, co-workers, train wrecks, strikes and, train orders. Loose pages of another travel diary record Bayer's observations on a trip via steamer, leaving from NYC on September 5, 1879 and arriving in Pará, Brazil on Sept. 18, 1879.
